Thanks Chris, we really appreciate that you are giving us such an awesome look at the development process, even this early in the production.

And also, the castle looks pretty awesome!

  • Omni_Project

Haha, the war-boar looks great! Nice to see some walls and towers.
Also, thanks for the patient feedback to all the comments: it looked somewhat testing. :P

  • Bryce Wilson

Great stuff Chris, and the rest of the team. Love your games, and I own them all. Keep it up. Will support you guys til the end!

  • IIBarbossaII

As i saw the walls and Towers i wondered, whether you will be able, place archers on them.

  • Andy

LMAO, don’t want to annoy Jessica.

Love this whole project where each week you are keeping us up-to-date with the progress of the game! Wish other developers would do it. It is also great that you are reading the comments and e-mails and taking notice of what the eventual gamers are saying!

  • Bobby Anguelov

Just wanna say I really appreciate these videos, they have become part of my saturday morning wake-up routine…

for only 4.5 months in, what you have is quite impressive, I’m assuming you are retrofitting a previous engine is it the supcom2 one or the demigod engine?

anyways keep up the great work, looking forward to future videos. GPG sure looks like a rad place to work.

  • Gås

Great video. The game does look very impressive indeed for such a short time in development. I’m glad to hear the chants will be beefed up as well! ;-)

  • Ryan

The War Boar looks great. Can’t wait to see more!

  • Toroto

Looks great! But please more freedom for building walls. 90 degrees angles doesn’t look very realistic. And make them expansive that we have to build them closer from our cities, it will look a bit more realistic…

  • IcyPlate

The war boar looks pretty big. I love big things that can smash through walls XD

Someone asked if we are going to be able to place archers on the walls … I’d really like to know that.

I guess those war boars aren’t going to take much damage from normal attacks … so are we going to shoot them with catapults or something like that?

  • Wicked

Thanks Chris for the reply on those comments, particularly mine about the horse’s legs :)

But I think you should have mentioned the things you have said in this video beforehand so we could have been a little less harsh on the E3 preview. I read “E3 preview” and thought this was going to be a trailer released to the public at E3 to get them excited. If I had known it was pre-production greybox footage I wouldn’t have bitched about it at all :D

I really appreciate the work you guys put into this game and blog, keep it up!

  • Olivier

Once again a very amazing and promising video ! Thanks for this Chris and also for the explanations related to our comments regarding E3 video. Last but not least if you have the phone number of this beautyfull blond woman talking with you on this video that would be much appreciated :-)

  • uLu_MuLu

Thank you very much for keeping us updated with these awesome video bloggs…

Even if you are still in the pre-poduction, we will get a wonderful look behind the scenes…

    Greetings from Germany…

  • Robert E

Appreciate the Crash Test Dummies, too!

  • IM19208

Great video as always Chris & Co!

Personally, I really want to know more about Gameplay, what is going to make unique this game in the crowld rts world?

Not asking for a rigorous description of course, just some designs, ideas or personal feelings…

Gameplay, gameplay, gameplay… should be the God of video game developers.

Regards! Keep up the good job!

  • CI.

Can you reclaim a dead war boar and feed your soldiers? :P

  • gGeorg

    Hello Chris and Team,

thx for reaction on players notes here

I hope every-one know that The game is still more than year to finish. I believe no-one would spit on project due to not polished details now!!!
If someone do, than fight me first :-)

Keep in mind please: easy camera control, less click control, Multilayer support, replay matches, online laders.
    thx a lot

    regards, it’s my lunch

I am curious, what changes between pre-production and production? I thought of pre-production as the time when you made the tech bible, defined the art style (via concept) and finalized the design doc to make. I thought you guys were in full production mode, still with lots of place holder and greybox (obviously only being 4.6 months in) work. So back to the original question how do you define production vs pre-production?

You guys are the greatest ever. You make Friday’s worth it.

  • Olivier

Was just wondering this : You have lots of technologies coming from Supcom 2, Demigods taht will be used for King & Castles. Are there any changes that will be performed to improve, again, these technologies ? Are there any K&C features that require very drastic changes ? Now that Most of PCs have mutiple cores, are GPG engineers trying to take much more advantage of these additional cores in order to have the game scaling up even better than in previous titles (I mean mono core is old story).

Next Year will be about Heroïc Fantasy …. We’ve never seen GPG working on a Modern Warfare background that could be really cool. Heroïc Fantasy is not my prefered background, but because this is made by GPG, i will order the game, even pre-order if possible.

    Hey Gaspowered games team
Just thought I was share I have been watching all the VBlogs and I love whats going on, no other company I know does this and I really enjoy watching them.

Good luck and cya next sunday ;p

  • General_Kolenga

By the way I think what the blue guys did at the Bridge was a tactical desaster. The blue ones Should have made a solid line, so the red guys had no advantage of theyr superior number.
    But still very nice ;)

  • Pierre

After 4,5 month of development your video was quite awersome and your are right Chris it’s better to take your time (but be carefull to not fall into the starcraft syndrom) xD

  • Peter78

Lots of people asking about Walls – Can you tell us a bit more?

KnC is looking very promising! Great job!

  • PoV

Does GPG have their own mo-cap room? Or are all the animations done painfully by hand?

  • Crox

    Hello Chris and Team,
thank you for the great work and response to comments. The game has beautiful premises. I am a lover of sieges, please tell me that in K&C there will be no RTS-nonsense such as swordsmen or (even worse) archers taking down fortifications and fortresses! I really hope there will be a specific unit class such as siege weapons or giant monsters who will be the only one able to crush walls. Keep up the great job(and sorry for my english)!

  • CDR Elrond

I am SO glad that none of these things are permanent… EVERY soldier being a 700 pound knight with a 300 pound broadswoard, little extreme.
Also, will there be any spearman/ pikeman advantages over cavalry units and monster units???
(IF there are any spear/pike options)

  • CDR Elrond

    ONE more thing!
What are the resources going to be called?

  • CDR Elrond

    Okay; one MORE more thing.
I’ve played too many medieval strategy games where the archers become these ALL-POWERFUL forces, once they aquire some flaming arrow or other upgrade, while medieval combat was mostly melee. Will the archers have the option to switch to a special arrow to increase damage and reduce accuracy? (Keyword accuracy).

    AAAH! CHICKENS!!!

  • Krogoth Experimental Kbot

Considering how much more bandwidth is available, as well as the average processing power of computers rising significantly, could you PLEASE be the first to break the stigma of “RTS games supporting only up to 8 playrs” and make it up to 16 players instead? 8 players is fun, but in my opinion, the more chaos in a game as well as more players playing makes a game exponentially more fun.

I understand network code can be problematic, but you’ve been the “first” to do a LOT of things in the rts industry, how about being the first to support up to 16 players in multiplayer for an rts in a single game?

Also, DON’T reduce the maximum number of units per side, or limit it based on the number of players. Computer speed will increase over time, and you should provide players future “growth” based off of how it will perform in the future. Players will set their own limits when they host a game, but the engine needs to have the support.

One last note…BRING BACK MOD SUPPORT!!! PLEASE!!! If NOTHING else, I ‘need’ mod support and a map editor to be provided when the game is released. You’ve seen some really awesome maps and mods created for both Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander. Let the modders have the same capabilities with Kings and Castles!

BTW Chris, you are f****** awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Albert Wolliver

I know your games since Total Annihilation (my first RTS) and this one is really awesome! I really can’t wait to play it when it’s done.

I know that the game is beeing developed yet few months but I have to agree with the guy that said about units limite… please, don’t limit that :)

I remember how hard was play TA with 200 limit and how amazing is playing it today with 5000 limit patch ;)

Anyway … I was wandering if we could even build our own castles or at least choose regions to have one.

Great game! You have a fan from Brazil here :)

  • Dimlos

This war boar is awesome! But did you think about knight for exemple? Will they attack it by hitting his feets? or in this hitbox, under his chest?
I just want to know if they’ll be cool interactions between units, like climbing on this monster and try to hit his eyes or something, it’ll be nice :)

(I’m not english sorry if they’re some mistakes)

  • William

Chris, great game so far. Jessica does a far better War Boar than you ;)

  • Joel B

4.5 Months? Heck, if I didn’t know otherwise I’d say you guys look like you are way further along than that. I’d be happy to have things looking that good in my own game project after 4.5 years!

I’m also amazed that you guys are sticking to your guns and pumping out a video blog each week. I can’t think of too many other dev studios that would A) be willing to show things this early in the project and B) would be willing to keep doing weekly video blogs even with things like pre-E3 crunch happening. Kudos to you guys.

  • Bert from belgium

Great video blog, it’s true that the production has just started for a couple of months. You guys already did an enormous job with this trailer. War boar is insanity. Get your lunch!

  • Mike J

    Nice Chris. Very funny.
Can’t wait to tune in next week.

    Told you chickens are funny.

I wanted to make an impression at a family reunion and bear in mind the names of all of the new husband’s loved ones members. There was one gent whom I’d asked his name and tried quite to remember but failed repeatedly. Finally he bailed me out and said his name was Dick. Without a thought I quickly mentioned, “Gosh, how could I forget? You *look* like a ‘Dick’!!!”

Servus! Ich habe versucht deinen RSS-Feed zu abonnieren – aber es funktioniert irgendwie nicht. Ich nutze Firefox Feedreader. Wieso geht das nicht? Grüße aus Hamburg
