That parchment concept is pretty cool.

Woah that parchment idea is very cool indeed! Good work guys, I’m liking everything I see.
It’s unfortunate that we didn’t get to see some of Jessica this time however. I need my Jessica fix, don’t mess around with me by showing me her brother

this looks very very promising but at the same time i can’t help but feel that the game will lose something but trying to do too much. Yes peoples requests are important, and yes having a game dev that actually replies to your emails is great, but letting everyone become the dev is not neccesarily the way to make a great game. I hear alot in these video blogs about different things that you wish to implement, but i have to say that having fewer realy well refined features can be better than an underdeveloped game with all the features of the planet. I do hope this will be a GPG game and not a game dictated by the 12 year old american child…..
August 28th, 2010 on 4:16 am
I hope there will bbe goblins/orcs in the game! And also the i think that the wizard should be manually changed on what spell he does, healing, fireball, summon units (maybe)
August 28th, 2010 on 4:28 am
Woah, I like the parchment style! A lot!
P.S. The first guy of the videoblog has a great keyboard

Parchment overview – cute idea for good atmosphere. Thumb up.
Anyway – in first vids there was real – european Castles – now it seems that the Base is simple bunch of buildings which means similar “gameplay feel” like anything else. What we can expect in The Game?
PLEASE dont give us micro management for Coool spells or what the hell skill for almost every unit. Starcraft is a Ruler in this class of RTS. Will we see Macro-massive-formation style here ?

yay Parchment, i approve
yay yay small glimpse of other units
yay

Very nice videoblog again!
I hope you won’t add something like “antimater strike” that destroy half of a base (remmember nuclear missiles in supcom 2, you have to take all reseach points in it tin order to avoid a missile from your ennemy at the beginning of the game).
Will there be elementals units? summons?
Will there be units who can use traps? or “invisible” units (remmember snipers in Dark Reign 1) because it’s very usefull!
Keep having fun in your work and may the force bith with chickens!
August 28th, 2010 on 8:13 am
i have to agree with the others the Parchment looks very cool. invisible units i remember ther was a cheat for age of empires that made your archers look like trees when they stand still.
or some some sort of sniper archer that climbs up a tree to get better view and range.

If you want to check out the cool, “Queens and Villas” from the blog, here’s a link, and you can also check out a lot more of Simone’s artwork!

And thanks for all the great posts and feedback!

Really great job there at “Queens and Villans” and all other stuff at deviantart.
Another great blog to keep on my collection
And I don’t feel like Pinkyfull! It’s really a great thing to see people asking what the players want, as the game will be to those players.
August 28th, 2010 on 10:13 am
Hey chris will there be mercenaries in the game(unique units that costs allot and train weary fast). Would be cool if a faction could choose from good and evil(would change the looks of buildings and add some new unique units). Go GPG and create an EPIC game. 100% Epic.
August 28th, 2010 on 6:11 pm
well i have to say the parchment is way cool looking! But please dont make nuke like weapons like in sup com 2… they ruined the game kinda:( I do hope some legendarys can be small this time too? As in a super archer with legendary range or can hit like5 units at once. one last thing, if there is a tech tree can it lock you out once you choose a path! i hate when a game comes down to how you tech instead of how you attack. Awesome vids thanks for sharing everything and im excited for this game!
August 28th, 2010 on 7:27 pm
So, this videoblog just sold the game to me. If you need my 65$ Canadian now so that you can continue to make this game and keep up with its independent development, then send it to me as a final product, I’m down.
Crowd Sourced Fundraising would be epic for this project.
August 29th, 2010 on 2:33 am
jeff is also awesome, but I stall want Chris futuring in the campaign of this game… or make him a jester in one of the cinematics
August 29th, 2010 on 10:53 am
Parchment effect == super cool, great idea (and useful too). You’ll find someone steals that from you soon enough, I bet.
August 29th, 2010 on 1:47 pm
qwestion will archers be able to go onto the walls or other buildings to deffenend and will u see them placed on there thanks?
August 30th, 2010 on 2:41 am
GPG, you guys need to have a good supply of lemon in the office. You need something to stop laughing:)
BTW have I already missed something devoted to animation? I’d be very interested to see some crazy characters zoomed in.
PS… every time after watching the blog I want to lead a female legion to attack somebody’s 5 star castle.
August 30th, 2010 on 2:55 am
This video blog was a brillent stroke of genuis and I will likely buy the game rather I think I will like it or not but I really like the idea of castable and destructable bridges
August 30th, 2010 on 9:50 am
@Irina: There is a nice list of all of the VLogs here: http://forums.gaspowered.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=47527
August 30th, 2010 on 11:36 am
@Sorian: thanks so much, you know I’ve just decided to watch all the Vblogs starting with the very first. It’s incredible, I can see the real progress of development process!
August 30th, 2010 on 4:18 pm
PARCHMENT ZOOM!!! Want.
Seriously. Put that in the game.
August 30th, 2010 on 6:04 pm
Maybe ,as someone already said, Chris might release those videoblogs inside the Kings & Castles DVD.
I’m already downloading them all, but would be nice to have them on the DVD, with a menu or something.
August 31st, 2010 on 10:42 am
@Albert: it would definitely be a great additional content for collector’s edition.
Hm… what else would I like to see there… dragon wing? (here in Moscow we had incredibly hot summer, I’d love to have dragon wing fan those days!)
AAAAAA, if you play guitar – would be great to have a plectrum – designed as dragon claw (or how do you call it?)
If not about dragons – pen-halberd?

I will go against the grain and say I am NOT a big fan of the parchment map.
A game just came out that did a parchment map as you zoom out (Elemental: War of Magic) and it actually took away from the game.
It was neat at first but after a while it breaks the immersion. You go form seeing your nice colored units and terrain to a bald painted maps as you zoom in and out. You to this enough times (and you will in Kings and castles if it is anything like SUPCOM) and you will want to shut it off.
It is gimmicky and not very practical.
August 31st, 2010 on 4:09 pm
Good job on the parchment treatment. I have Kurtis’s concerrns as well though: will this break immersion as much as it seemed to there? There seemed to be this audible flip between regular world map and parchment map, maybe if they faded more between?
One question though while I”m at it: Will there be Mounts? By this I mean, will a knight dismount and walk around… or will he come with a horse, and always be on a horse?
September 1st, 2010 on 5:44 pm
Two questions: How will the player be penalized if their monarch dies, and will the units be upgradable like they were in SupCom 2?
September 2nd, 2010 on 1:35 am
Daydrick said: “How will the player be penalized if their monarch dies”
Let the civilization ‘mourn’, meaning that no units or buildings can be build for -let’s say- 30 seconds. I’ve got this idea from the Edain mod for ‘BfME II: RotWK’, where this happens when Boromir dies.
September 2nd, 2010 on 5:47 am
hey chris i was wonderding will kings and casltes have a good multiplayer setting like supreme commander and forged alliance where they have a lobby clans and chat systems, or will it be like the crap supreme commander 2 system

There is another thing that I have not seen on those videoblogs: Soundtracks.
If you want to make an epic game, it should have an epic soundtrack (in my opinion).
When you play Battle for Middle Eart 1 you fell excited to battle with the movie background music.
As old Total Annihilation had a great BGM, I would like to see/know if you guys have already some ideas for that.
September 3rd, 2010 on 12:24 am
Ahh, a Jeremy Soule episode [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Soule] would be great!!! I hope this project will be done by him.
When “Total Annihilation” comes out I listen to the soundtrack every day when I was driving to school.
I’ve never been to “classic” in my live, but that kicks me from the first moment.
@Chris
Please change the music to the player action like in “Total Annhilation”. This gives a more intense feeling of the game athmosphere.
And the player will not forget the first moment when it comes to battle!

‘Marco W.’
I used to put the green cd1 of TA in my old cd-player to listen the musics *.*
I still have mine copy of TA … not fully working but I still have it! My first computer game bought with my own money … good memories (L)
September 3rd, 2010 on 2:26 pm
@Albert: Yeah, so listen to Track8 it’s my favorite called “Forest Green”.
There aren’t so many games with a soundtrack played by an orchestra this days.
Yeah, there were times when a good Soundtrack and a great concept (even a handbook that you don’t have to print by yourself) can do history.

Marco

Hi there! Do you know if they make any plugins to assist with SEO? I’m trying to get my blog to rank for some targeted keywords but I’m not seeing very good success. If you know of any please share. Thanks!
